I’m not really sure how I feel about the 2021 Pantone Color(s) of the Year. I love gray on its own, but I’m not a huge fan of the color yellow. Gray and yellow are such an unpopular combination, but the rationale makes perfect sense. Pantone described their 2021 selections as:
“A marriage of color conveying a message of strength and hopefulness that is both enduring and uplifting. PANTONE 17-5104 Ultimate Gray + PANTONE 13-0647 Illuminating, two independent colors that highlight how different elements come together to support one another, best express the mood for Pantone Color of the Year 2021. Practical and rock solid but at the same time warming and optimistic, the union of PANTONE 17-5104 Ultimate Gray + PANTONE 13-0647 Illuminating is one of strength and positivity.”
— PANTONE
After 2020, I think we can all agree that strength and positivity are going to be hugely important as we try to get to the other side of this pandemic. Outside of festive nail art, I like to keep it pretty neutral when it comes to home decor, personal style and beauty. While I certainly won’t be painting any walls yellow in my home, a throw pillow, shower curtain or new work chair could be the perfect accent. Or, if you’d rather wear your accent color, grab these adorable Hunter boots or some double sided liquid eyeshadows — in gray and yellow!
If you’re looking to sprinkle some of these colors into your life, here are some of my Pantone picks for 2021:
