Solo Stove Review

At the top of Pete’s birthday list this year was a Solo Stove and I’m so thankful to Solo Stove for partnering with me to get him the best birthday gift ever. He picked out the Yukon, the largest of the Solo Stove options, and it’s the perfect size for us!

We bought the 27″ Stand, the Roasting Sticks (for s’mores, duh!), and the Shelter (a fancy name for cover), to go with it. The stand allows you to use the Solo Stove on practically any surface. We have a small patio area we’ve been using it on, but we can move it to the grass or the driveway without having to worry about any damage to the lawn. The s’mores sticks were a splurge, but they are totally worth the price tag! The cover is absolutely necessary if you’re planning on storing it outside.

We start with a fire starter. These and these are our favorites so far.

Then, we stack our firewood: two horizontal with some space in between, two vertical and two horizontal. We get our firewood from a local company called Premier Firewood Co. out of Wilton, Connecticut. It’s kiln dried hardwood and it burns great. On top of that, it’s clean, bug-free and can be stored in our garage which is super convenient.

Once that’s stacked, we light the fire starter and in a few minutes we have a fire ready to go.  The kiln dried wood smells amazing and burns really hot. When we have a good fire going, we mix in random wood/logs to keep it going. Once we decide to call it a night, the fire burns out fairly quickly so we never have to worry about an unattended fire.

One of the best features is that it’s portable which means we can enjoy it anywhere. It’s traveled with us to our friends’ and families’ homes already and while we typically enjoy it in our backyard, we’ve already talked about moving it to the driveway for Halloween trick-or-treating. It’s been perfect to enjoy these cooler summer nights during quarantine and we can’t wait to use it all fall long.
